Percy Park Pirates Touch Rugby Club recently held a presentation night and family social evening at the club on Preston Avenue.  Players, families and friends met to mark the end of a successful season. The Pirates theme resulted in some excellent fancy dress on display by both Senior and Junior members.Founder members of the club John and Irene Ormesby were welcomed to the proceedings.  Following a review of the season Mr Ormesby was invited to present the awards and medals to the players who had made the season so successful with their ongoing commitment to the club as well as their skills with the ball.

The 2009 season kicked off with the Pirates Master’s Men travelling to Belfast to play the Ireland Master’s Men and was wrapped up when the Pirate Ladies travelled to Leeds to take part in a successful touch development day/tournament.

In May, the club hosted the third competition in the England National Touch Series 2009, when sixteen mixed teams met to play touch in a great atmosphere and local teams from Percy Park, Newcastle Estates and Sage competed against some of the best teams in the country.

This was followed by Pirates travelling to competitions in Cambridge and Bath, as part of the National Touch Series.

In August, the Home Nation’s Tournament was held in Glasgow where Lesley McCallion and Ian Moody played for England and Seamus McCallion played for Ireland.

During the summer Percy Park Pirates won all of their final playoff games to become the overall cup winners in the Newcastle Falcons Summer League and were also the winners of the Sage Charity Tournament.  In addition members enjoy many club nights playing Touch throughout the year.
